Ibn Rajab (Rahimahullah)
In the Name of Allah (SWT), The Most Merciful, & The Compassionate ❤️
A Brief Biography
Imam Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (736 – 795 AH) was a distinguished scholar, Haafidh, and critic, born Zayn-ud-Deen ‘Abdur-Rahmaan bin Ahmad bin ‘Abdir-Rahmaan bin al-Hasan bin Muhammad bin Abil-Barakaat Mas’ood As-Salaamee Al-Baghdaadee, due to his birthplace. He was known as Al-Hanbalee, reflecting his madh-hab, and Ad-Dimashqee, due to his residence and death in Damascus. His kunyah was Abul-Faraj, and his nickname, Ibn Rajab, was inherited from his grandfather, who was born in the month of Rajab.
Born in Baghdad in 736H to a noble and righteous family deeply rooted in knowledge, Imam Ibn Rajab’s father played a crucial role in guiding him toward beneficial knowledge.
Imam Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy on him, was greatly influenced by the works of Shaikh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taimiyyah. He would issue legal rulings based on Ibn Taimiyyah’s teachings and frequently referred to his books. He was also a student of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah, the most prominent student of Ibn Taimiyyah. However, despite his admiration for his teachers, Ibn Rajab was not a blind follower; he carefully reviewed, authenticated, and followed the evidence.
Imam Ibn Rajab passed away in Ramadaan, 795H, in Damascus, leaving behind a legacy of knowledge and scholarship.
