Sheikh Ahmed Deedat (Rahimahullah)

In the Name of Allah (SWT), The Most Merciful, & The Compassionate ❤️

A Brief Biography

Sheikh Ahmed Hoosen Deedat was born on July 1, 1918, in the Surat district of India. In 1927, his father emigrated to South Africa, bringing him along. His journey into Da’wah (Islamic missionary work) began after reading Izharul Haq – The Truth Revealed, a book detailing debates with Christian missionaries in British India. Inspired by its message, he dedicated his life to countering the Christian missionary movement through knowledge and dialogue. Over the next four decades, Sheikh Deedat engaged in a wide range of Da’wah activities, conducting Bible classes, delivering lectures, and debating Christian evangelists across the globe. He founded the first Islamic seminary in Southern Africa, the Assalaam Educational Institute in Braemar, to train future propagators. He also established the Islamic Propagation Center International (IPCI), which grew to become the world’s largest Islamic Da’wah organization, serving as its president. His dynamic public debates with prominent Christian evangelists earned him worldwide recognition. He traveled across five continents, engaging in interfaith discussions, including dialogues with leading Protestant figures in the United States. His lectures and debates—recorded in multiple languages—continue to be widely available in video and DVD formats, reaching audiences globally. May Almighty Allah bless his soul, accept his efforts in the cause of Da’wah, and grant patience and comfort to his loved ones.
