How to control your anger in islam?

“One, who adopts patience, will never be deprived of success though it may take a long time to reach him” Imam Ali (RA). [1] Imam Ali also reported, The Messenger of Allah (saws) as saying, “Sabr (precise meaning being “perseverance” or “persistence”) is of three kinds: Sabr at the time of affliction, Sabr in regard to obedience, and Sabr in regard to disobedience (of Allah). And the third one is superior to the first two kinds.” – Extracted from Du’a Kumail.

Duas to control anger

Rabbana afrigh Aaalayna sabran watawaffana muslimeen

Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You].

Opening dua at the moment of anger

A-oo-dhoo bi-ka-li-maa till-laa-hit taaam-ma-ti min gha-da-bi-hee wa i-qaa-bi-hee wa shari ibaa-dih. Wa min hama-zaa-tish shayaa-teen. Wa ayy-yah dhu-roon.”

I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words from His anger and punishment, from the evil of His slaves, and from Satan’s whispers and presence.”

Seek refuge in Allah

Laa ilaa haa il-laa an-ta subh-haa-na-ka in-nee kunn-tu minadh-dhaa li-meen.

“There is no God but you. May You be exalted. Indeed, I was among the wrongdoers.”

Sulayman ibn Sard said: “I was sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and two men were slandering one another. One of them was red in the face, and the veins on his neck were standing out. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘I know a word which, if he were to say it, what he feels would go away. If he said “I seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytan,” what he feels (i.e., his anger) would go away.’” (Reported by al-Bukhari, al-Fath, 6/337)

Remain silent

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “If any of you becomes angry, let him keep silent.” (Reported by Imam Ahmad, al-Musnad, 1/329; see also Sahih al-Jami’, 693, 4027)

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “The strong man is not the one who can overpower others (in wrestling); rather, the strong man is the one who controls himself when he gets angry.” (Reported by Ahmad, 2/236; the hadith is agreed upon).
